Problem: Research reveals that five to 10 percent of all cancers are hereditary, one ninth of Russians have at least one life-threatening genetic mutation, 0.4 percent have mutations that lead to cardiovascular diseases, and between 0.5 to 5 percent have mutations that increase the risk of thrombosis.
Solution: An enterprise that provides access to personal and medical genetics information using cutting-edge technologies for bioinformatics, molecular genetic studies, DNA isolation and analysis for consumer genetic testing, hereditary disease diagnostic, and clinical trials.
Goals and objectives: To provide medical diagnosis of rare inherited diseases,
genetic studies for planning a healthy pregnancy, DNA tests for multifactorial diseases, genetic studies to determine predispositions associated with sports, metabolic characteristics and other human characteristics.
Implementation: In 2010 M.V. Lomonosov, Valery Ilyinsky, Artem Elmuratov and Kirill Petrenko, graduates of Moscow State University founded Genotek – a high-tech medical company in collaboration with leading Russian and European research institutes in the field of genetics and medicine.
Health and Longevity® the leading product from Genotek searches for mutations that increases the likelihood of both critical and non-critical illnesses. Since DNA testing can determine risk for disease development, support children planning and provide insights on health, Health and Longevity® helps in disease prevention by screening for inherited pathologies, mutations and exome analysis.
Health and Longevity® provides a thorough genetic analysis and identifies diseases that the customer is of higher risk to. The customer also receives recommendations on prophylactics of the specific disease s/he is prone to. With regular check-ups and a personal examination plan, it is then possible to identify diseases at early stages and prevent further manifestation. This contributes to longer life expectancy and a better quality of life for its customers.
All DNA tests are conducted in Genotek’s Moscow laboratory using Illumina HiSeq2500, MiSeq, Oxford Nanopore MinION sequencers, Illumina HiScan microchip analysis platform, and Pacific Biosciences RS II.
The parent company currently employs 65 employees, including 5 PhD’s and 9 PhD candidates.
Achievements: Since its founding, Health and Longevity® has served thousands of customers from 16 countries.
Genotek in cooperation with the Institute of General Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University have discovered a previously unknown mutation associated with a rare genetic disease - Liddle’s syndrome.
